ABOUT

A little introduction, my name is Bob Kyllo. I am the president of Research and Design, Inc. (Please, no applause, I also take the trash out.) For many years I have been engaged in product and equipment design for business served by the electronics industry. No doubt you have been touched in some small way by products I have at least had a part in creating. If you eat food, drive a car, or use a computer, you have undoubtedly, at least indirectly, used some of my work. You might recognize a few names: IBM, 3M, Whirlpool, Delco, ThermoKing, Ocean Spray, along with many others.

However there has always been a need to stabilize the work. Design work is feast or famine. A desirable goal was to transition into some type of work that paid, not just for the job done, but on-going. This was a constant search and many enterprises were tried but never quite accomplished this goal.

Often, in the conduct of my design business, I would need to take photos for proposals, reports, documentation, etc. My lifelong avocation, photography, served well in this capacity. Most of this was of small objects and through microscopes. I also developed proficiency with image processing software (i.e., Photoshop). Some years ago I began to study the stock photography business (as part of my constant search). It seemed the perfect fit. When business was slow I could engage in shooting for stock. If I got busy I could back off. However, the business of stock, as practiced then, was mostly back office work and little photography. This (along with the design business) all changed with the coming of the internet and digital image capture and delivery.

So, a number of years ago I began selling photos as stock. Since that time many tens of thousands of photographs have been sold, worldwide. My images have been published, sometimes with print runs in the Millions, for: brochures, magazines, books, book covers and jackets, retail display, newspapers, billboards, web pages, reports, television stills, posters, presentations, packaging, and in television and print advertising. It is actually unlikely you have NOT seen one or more of my photographs. How does this lead to product photography?

I noticed in shooting stock that many of the most successful photos were what are called "object" shots, photos of objects for use by graphic designers as elements in a design. Stock is a very demanding business. To sell as stock, photos must be perfect in exposure, focus, and composition or they will not be accepted by an agent. The types of skills, equipment, and lighting developed for stock are exactly the same as product photography, so it was only a small step to branch out into that area.

Today, these many years of "product" shooting experience are available for your use. My aim is to help the startup, and small to medium business with their product and catalog photography needs. Let me be your partner, I'll work hard to give you the best service and photos for the money. If you like what you
see I can do it for you!
